This week we are learning to create a website for our library. While researching Free Tools for Creating Websites, I was wondering what would be the most user friendly site to use to develop a webpage. I want an attractive, professional yet simple site that my students, parents, and community can navigate easily. My school already has ties to Google, so I thought it was a given that I would go with Google Sites, but in looking closer I am leaning toward Weebly.

I found this Weebly site, GMS Library Website, that I think is a nice example of what I envision my site to be. I like the wood background, the row of books, and the light green and blue colors. I also like the Battle of the Books page within the site.
The second site I found is for Wellesley Middle School. I think I will incorporate some of the aspects of this site into mine. This one has a red banner that catches your eye. I love the ice cream bars for the summer reading list. I also really like the drop down boxes.

I found this Google Site, Ephraim Curtis Middle School, that really caught my eye. It is green and has blocks of different colors. There is a quote from Kermit the Frog from Sesame Street- "It isn't not easy being green." Love this! I also love the summer reading section. This librarian has really gone above and beyond to offer some wonderful things for the summer.
With so many great examples out there, I just hope I can create a site that will be informative, appealing, professional, and easy to navigate. I guess I should get started!
Looks like we have similar taste! I came across two of your picks. I very liked the accessibility and graphics of Ephraim's site. I hope to create something with similar to it. I wanted to see your first pick (GMS) but it looks like it is a broken link.

ReplyDeleteI think the Google Site you've featured here has a great layout and is easy to read. Great picks!
