Krosoczka, J.J. (2009). Lunch lady and the cyborg substitute. New York, NY: Alfred A Knopf.
Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute by Jarrett J. Krosoczka is a graphic novel about the Lunch Lady and her sidekick Betty, who is also a lunch lady. They decide to investigate a new substitute at school and discover that he is a cyborg trying to take over the school. Hector, Dee, and Terrence, three students at the school, decide to find out what the Lunch Lady does after school and they find themselves in a dangerous situation. The yellow, black, and white color scheme of the graphics are simple and work well. This book is perfect for a reluctant or struggling reader, because it is a quick yet fun read. This was my first graphic novel and to be honest I didn't think I would like it, but I am happy to say that I really enjoyed it.
