The Higher Power of Lucky by Susan Patron is a story about a little girl named Lucky whose mother has died and her father doesn't want to raise her so he calls upon his ex-wife to be her guardian. Lucky eavesdrops on a local 12-step program meetings where they talk about hitting rock bottom and finding a higher power. She feels as though she has hit rock bottom when she thinks Brigitte, her guardian, is going back to France. She decides to run away, but didn't count on a dust storm and a little visitor. Follow Lucky through her touching journey to find her higher power with her unique view of life. This book has been banned from some schools because of the use of the word scrotum. I really enjoyed this book and didn't want to put it down.
