Myers, W. D. (1997). Harlem: a poem. New York, NY: Scholastic Press.
Harlem: A Poem by Walter Dean Myers is a poem about going to Harlem to find a better life, but racism exists there, too. Rooted in music this poem takes on a song like way. The poem mentions landmarks in Harlem such as the Cotton Club and the Apollo. The beautiful illustrations let you see different textures and colors. This would be a great book to use in history class or language arts class.
