Lewis, E.B. (2009). The Negro speaks of rivers.New York, NY. Disney Jump at the Sun Books.
The Negro Speaks of Rivers is a poem by Langston Hughes and illustrated by E. B. Lewis. Lewis interprets Hughes poem in this lovely book about having strength in difficult times. The use of watercolor in these moving illustrations takes the poem line by line. It is powerful and moving. This book would be great to use in a history class.
