Knock Knock: My Dad's Dream For Me by Daniel Beaty and illustrated by Bryan Collier is a story about a boy who plays knock knock with his father daily.  Then one day the father is gone.  The little boy is lost and ends up leaving a letter for his dad thinking he may get it when the boy isn't home.  One day a letter comes for the boy from his father telling him that he won't be coming home.  Later when the boy is grown his father returns.  The story is based on what happened to the author as a young boy and his father was incarcerated.
