Butcher, K. (2009). Pharaohs and foot soldiers: one hundred ancient Egyptian jobs you might have desired or dreaded. Toronto: Annick Press.
Interested in learning about the jobs of ancient Egypt, then this book is for you. Pharaohs and Foot Soldiers by Kristin Butcher starts out with Army jobs such as archer, charioteer, and weapon smith with brief descriptions. Then she leads into Monumental jobs which include architect, mathematician, and stone hauler. Next, she goes into Nile jobs such as boat builder, reed cutter, and fisherman. Bee keeper, farmer, or vintner are jobs that are included in Black Land jobs. Robber was listed as a Red Land job and of course pharaoh was listed as a Noble job. It seems there are a lot of choices, but not really since jobs were usually inherited. The illustrations for this book are fun cartoon figures. This book would be great to use when studying ancient Egypt.
How funny! I think this book looks like great information while being fun at the same time. If I taught elementary social studies, I would definitely get this one for my classroom!
